Default Frames Question - 11-29-2004 , 07:35 AM

http://www.d-a-a.com hi please go to this site and click on the about us page.
i noticed this is a frames-based site. id' like to hear anyone'e thoughts on
designing with frames - pros and cons. also, if anyone knows of web sites that
explain how to do neat stuff in DW with frames, pls pass it on. one more thing
- at the above site, can anyone figure out how to make a frame look like it
'spills into' the other frame? for example, if u notice the body frame has a
nice shadow around that looks like it's overlapping the left and top frames.
thanks.

That's a regular, flat page. Not a frameset.
All you need to do to see if it's a frameset is to view the source.
You cant' make a frame "spill" into another frame.
Look in the DW help files about framesets. But don't make one. Do
regular flat pages.

To get a sense on why is bad to design with frames please download a text
browser. A good program might be lynx:
http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/lynxport.htm

Run it, press 'g' and type your url, then see what happens when triying to
click on About Us. (use the arrow keys to move between the links and
'enter' to click)

Now this is a terminal browser, imagine the same thing on an audio browser
for impared people.

This is also about accesibility usually known as Section 508
(http://www.section508.gov/)

You didn't follow directions. ;-)

For a few of the usability problems, see
http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php.

If, after reading that, you still want to use frames, go here
http://www.tjkdesign.com/resources/frames/default.asp

Work through the entire tutorial and learn everything there.

dan - you have to enter the site from the store-front page in order to see the
frameset. the storefront page is a flat page. pls go into the site and look
and you'll see its a frameset. then let me know how u think he made the white
sort of go into the others.

Yeah, sorry. I didn't read carefully enough.
The frames don't go into each other. It's a (pretty skilled) illusion
made by images. Download the site and see.
