Default Forms in Flash vs. HTML(DW) - 07-07-2004 , 02:46 PM

This is just a basic question. I have to create a form for our site and I am
unsure if I should make it in Flash or HTML (Dreamweaver to be exact). Are
there any advantages or disadvantages for using either or? Is it all the
same? Is one, more secure than the other (ie: flash is a video file while
HTML is viewable via Source code)? Any comments or information would be
great. Thanks!

Well I guess that'd depend on the forms use if it's going to be emailing you
and you just can't stand Spam why not go with flash, but I think a html form
looks more professional.. just my opinion.

HTML is typically a lot easier to make accessible.

HTML is native to the browser. Flash requires a plug in.

Not really. Flash isn't a video file, btw. It can also be decompiled fairly
easily.

Use a forms processor that allows you to set the email address the form is
set to in a config file as opposed to the HTML file itself. This will keep
spam harversters away from it.

A Flash form still requires a page on the server to handle the output. For a
simple form there is little advantage to them over html. It is where you get
into more complicated elements such as emplying flash remoting that flash
forms take over basically because you can carry out such things as
validation with out a round trip to the server

That's what i was thinking.. Especially because i'm not interested in
getting all cute with the form.. The only thing that concerns me is that i
know that email Spamers have Harvesters that go throughout the internet
and
retrieves email addresses from web site source codes. Now if my form was
in
Flash, i'm thinking this will lessen the endless spam mails because the
email address is contained in a movie. Does this sound right? Or am i just

I think if the rest of your site isn't done with Flash, it is useless to
make the form in Flash instead of Dreamweaver. It saves a lot of time in
designing the form. And some people don't have the Flash player
installed
on
their computer so they won't see the form.

So if I where you I would do it with HTML (Dreamweaver)
