Default FONTS - What makes a font "standard"? - 11-06-2004 , 01:07 PM

Another simple question, but what makes a font standard. How does a person know
that they're using a font which can be read on any system?
For example, are all fonts on the Word prog compatible to all pcs.

Thanks, PF Marconi

Operating System manufacturers have set the standard. It all depends on what
operating system is installed as to what fonts will be available when
viewing web pages. All fonts in Word will not be available on all computers
around the world. Most will show up for alot of users but you just never
know. It is best to at least stick in some of the most common fonts for
backup if your preferred font isn't installed on any particular machine
visiting your website.

Helvetica is not a standard font on PC - Arial is usually a close
substitute, but it's *not* the same font.

Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, Georgia, Courier New, Trebuchet MS (PC)
Helvetica, Verdana, Times, Georgia, Courier, Trebuchet MS (Mac)

I think that's it (other than the defaults of monospace, serif, sans-serif,
and system).
