Default Flash behaviours in dreamweaver - 10-30-2005 , 11:16 AM

Hi
i'm having some trouble with a website i'm designing, i have flash on the page
and when the user clicks the flash I want to use the show/hide layers
behaviour. Problem is I cant assign behaviours to flash. I've tried placing a
transparant image over the flash and putting the behaviour on that, but the
flash rises to the top so the image cant be clicked.
I hope i'm making sense, sadly my internet connection is down at the moment so
i cant upload anything to show you as i'm designing it offline.
If anyone can give me any ideas though that would be great
thanks
Lyndon

Per Kim Cavanaugh author, Beginner's Guides to Dreamweaver and Fireworks
http://www.dw-fw-beginners.com

You'll only be able to do that with a Flash file that you make in
Flash--not with the built-in Flash buttons or text in Dreamweaver.

In Flash you can pass the argument through actionscripting like this:

GetURL("javascript:MM_showHideLayers('Layer1','',' hide')");

but you can't do it with the built-in Flash buttons or text.

BTW, you *can* pass javascript functions with the new FlashBang
extension from Joe Lowery. It's a commercial extension, but certainly
takes the pain out of working with Flash navigation objects:

ok thanks for your help kenneth
i dont know if i'm being inept or what, i have tried to add the behaviour in
flash, using the onclick get url thing you said.
The curser now changes to a pointer when it is moved over the flash suggesting
that it does something, but when i click it nothing appears to be happening.
Can anyone give me some more detailed instructions on how to do this? I'm very
much still picking up flash and dreamweaver.

thanks

Flash questions are more likely to get answered in the Flash forum.

welcome to the club. you are NOT being inept. You are experiencing the
new FlashPlayer 8 security features, I bet. While I haven't seen this
FROM Dreamweaver, I have personally experienced from Flash 8 Pro.

somehow, you have to trigger this security app to open so you can tell
it to allow the actions to occur.

see this thread on the flash forum, just search for:

Does anyone have a CLEAR answer for getURL not working?

Please try to go here:

http://www.madisonmotorcycleclub.org/getURL_javascript/f8_geturl_javascript.html

and click to see what happens. This is set up by Bentley Wolfe at
Macromedia for testing issues related to getURL, though it didn't relate
to my simple yet-not-functioning button behavior.

also, you can go here:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/

to open a support ticket so that Macromedia will (puleeze) get this
issue the focus it deserves!

I also heard that Bentley was planning to put something about this in
the Flash support emerging issues notes at macromedia.com/support/flash
but when I checked today, nothing was there that related to getURL issues.
