Default Flash - 11-28-2007 , 12:57 PM

We have a consultand that builds websites for us in Dreamweaver. (We also have
a licensed copy). Most of the sites we build are very simple and do not
require flash. We do have one however that we would like to add flash
navigation buttons or a simple box that uses flash. Is there anyway we can buy
a template and add it to a site we build? I know we can buy an entire website
template but we would prefer to build our own and just buy a flash component.
We could have our designer build it as well but for obvious cost reasons would
prefer to go the template route. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -

1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?

It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...

Thank you very much. All very good points. I'm dont know much about this so
sorry if I'm asking the same thing over again. Should I still not use it to
add maybe a narrow box at the bottem of the page that rotates picutes or
something like that?
Again thanks for your help, greatly apprciated.

This is my opinion, although others here would share it, I believe. As long
as you use Flash for non-critical purposes I think you are OK. I would not
use it for navigation UNLESS a) I was prepared for some visitors to see
blank gray areas where the Flash would have been, and b) I provided
redundant, plain text navigation as well.

With that said, do you know how can I buy a flash template to insert into Dreamweaver? Thanks again for your help.
