Default Fixed width column in a stretchy table - 11-29-2004 , 03:57 AM

In a table which has three columns set to 100% width, is there any way I can fix the width of the left hand (menu) column so everything else re-sizes as it's dragged except the menu column?

Set column 1 to a fixed width and columns 2/3 to 50% each?

Don't set column widths at all. Don't drag cell borders.

Now - what is it you want to do?

Maybe I didn't make myself too clear. The dragging I was refering to it when
you drag the broweser window of the finshed site. I have stared long and hard,
green with envy at sites that manage to combine fixed width columns with liquid
columns. At the moment my site's menu bar increase in width as the site's
window is dragged wider in the browser but on larger monitors at high
resoltution is begins to eat up space it doesn't beed to (as well as looking
rather stupid). I just though there was an obvious trick I was missing.

You can use css to declare the width of the nav cell eg: 175px, then make
the content cell 100%. As the browser window is widened, the content cell
only should 'stretch' to accommodate the extra space.
