Default First site- check and 2 questions - 11-29-2004 , 12:22 PM

My very first website is up- (logocraftsman.com). I used dreamweaver mx, I am
trying to get info on any problems you see. and...
1st question- how do I make the form on the "Order" page functional? (The 2nd
half- I will be using paypal)
2nd question- To make everything work I had to make a few changes, however the
"plan" or flowchart still shows the deleted items in red- how do I get rid of
them, although the items were corrected and everything works now, I cannot seem
to delete the changed items shown in red on the plan/flowchart.
Thank you for any input

I didn't think that I had gotten any replies. I went back to take a look, and
read your reply. No, I don't think you are a bad guy, and I appreciate your
honesty. This confirms the fact that I know very little about web design, but
at the same encourages me to learn more and correct items as I go along. Just
to see it come online was a thrill, but as the song says... the thrill is gone.
Time to improve. I will print out your reply, and make it a point to learn
what the ____ you are talking about. I don't plan on being a web master, I
just wanted to get something up for myself on the side. Please give me more
comments if you can on what else I screwed up, it will only help.

hi, it doesn't look too bad for your first one. please be careful as i'm
learning myself, about the absolute layers or divs. if u put text in them and
if someone who can't see well tries to blow up the text, it will be all over
the place. i tried the absolute layers too at www.bcpeeweefootball.com/dw and
was excited with what i came up with, only to find that the text will disappear
if the text is enlarged in the browser. so now i'm learning other ways of
designing to insure that this doesn't happen. good luck.

* No background color specified. Don't rely on browser defaults (won't
always be white).

* _Much_ too heavy. The target size for the homepage including images,
scripts etc. should be about 50-60KB, currently you're nearly hitting
700KB! This takes ages to download, even on ISDN. Not to mention modem
users. Before putting images on a website reduce them to their final
size, don't use width- and height-attributes for resizing.

* Many useless empty paragraphs.

* Invalid code
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://logocraftsman.com/

* Because of the missing alt-attributes the site will be quite useless
for people using text browsers
http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.cgi?url=http://logocraftsman.com/

You should also start reading a bit about HTML and how to make your
markup better, some examples:

* "One price for EVERYTHING!!!" doesn't really look like a heading to
me.

* Why not use real (ordered) lists on the "The Process" page?

Additionally most of your page elements are positioned absolutely, which
will definitely cause problems on systems with other/bigger font
settings, text and images will overlap. HTML is no DTP!

Thanks for the input, it is all very helpful. Like I mentioned, I am not a
webmaster, or even plan to be- but wanted to get a site up for myself. Because
I am a do-it-for-yourself kind of guy with EVERYTHING, I thought I would give
it a shot, but now it is time grow and learn more, so thanks again for all of
your input.
