'File Activity Incomplete'..please help

I am using the trial version of Dreamweaver 8. I entered all the site
information correctly and the test connection was successful.

However, when I attempt to upload files to the remote server, I am getting
this error message:

'Started: 03/05/2006 5:18 PM

index.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put index.html.
Access Denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.

File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.

Files with errors: 1
index.html

Finished: 03/05/2006 5:18 PM'

I do not understand how I am getting Access Denied because my domain states
'Ready' on the host control panel.

Please help!

Check that the site has FTP permission enabled with the hosting party.

I checked the host control panel and yes, I do have FTP enabled.

What else could be the problem? I contacted my host (1&1.com) and they told me to contact Dreamweaver. Some help!

expand the Files panel. Click connect.
does it connect to the remote site?

If yes- What files or folders are listed on the remote side?

Is there a folder named something like public_html or httpdocs or www or
similar?

If yes- put that exact folder name into the "host directory" line of this
site definition-->remote info.

I have a problem connecting to my server about 70% of the time with DW. I
just use an ftp program to upload files to my web host.

I have the same problem, and I use 1and1.com also. I emailed them about it
yesterday, but I'm guessing I'm going to get the same response as you did:
"Check with Dreamweaver."

What FTP program do you use Wally?
