Default FAO: Alan/blu regarding CCCloner - 06-15-2004 , 04:27 PM

Alan:

CCCloner will not see the F/W drive either as a source or a destination, but
that's probably because it has not been formatted as a Mac drive. When I
format it, what format should I use: Mac OS Extended, Mac OS Standard, or
Unix File System?

Not blu, but MacOS Extended is the preferred method.

Best regards,
Chris

hfs+ same as mac extended.

what do you have for drive types available to stick in this box?
as i said in an earlier msg, i'd leave the boot drive alone and just slap
the larger drive in as a spare for data, unless you're running low on room
on the boot drive, after moving off what doesn't have to stay on the boot
drive.

what i'd really do.. skip the firewire connection, take a screwdriver to the
firewire drive's box and take the HD out of it, slap it into the machine
itself, clone across, then put whatever drives back into the machine and
clone the boot drive back onto whatever drive you want it on.
but then i just like to take stuff apart and leave hard drives hanging out
of the cases dangling from cables

Alan:

You must have missed my later reply to that post...

*******************
Sorry for taking so long to get back to this.

The situation is a bit more complex than that! 8( (so what else is new)

I have the 5GB boot drive. I also have a 20GB 2nd drive (as a slave).
Originally, I thought - hey! I'll just install OSX on the 20GB drive and
boot from it. But I could not make that work (retrospectively, pehaps I
still had it as a slave drive?). The installation would never get past the
final reboot into OSX - it would just get to the point where I see the
splash desktop background screen, and the clock in the upper-right hand
corner, and die.

So - I shuffled lots-o stuff from the 5GB to the 20GB, and installed OSX on
the 5GB. Now I have OSX install files in both places. Am I confused? Oh,
yeah. Apple was NO help, with one tech actually telling me that I could
only boot from Apple certified drives. <sigh>

So - I'm looking for a way outta this mess.

LOL - well, that's an idea too!
