Default Expanding Frame - 07-07-2004 , 01:34 AM

Is there a way to make a top frame a button bar with pop-out menus that either
expand the frame size or extend into the lower frame. The only way I can see
the pop up menu is to have the frame large enough to display the whole pop up.
I'm trying to save space until it's needed.
Thanks,
Ed

You have now encountered *one* obstacle with frames. As you keep going,
you will bump into more, and each time you will need to create
workarounds, strange "solutions" and will soon be entangled in a mesh of
javascripts and s***t so dense that you won't be able to find your way out.

So, get out of the frameset heel while there's time, unless you have
extremely good reasons for maintaining them and are prepared for the
problems you'll encounter further down the road.

To answer your question: Yes, some claim that they can make a menu that
can cross frame borders. I don't know since I haven't tried and will
never try:

Except they mislead. These are not layers that span a frame boundary, they
are layers in one frame that are controlled from another. This is devil
spawn!

Imagine what happens when you scroll the frame containing the submenus.
That's right - the submenus will scroll UNDER the top frame.

Your first advice was the best - get out of the frames.
