Default Endless FTP woes - 07-08-2004 , 03:42 AM

I'm sure this has been mentioned countless times before, but just
*when* will MM face the FTP problems in DW 7.0.1 ?
I thought the patch might've fixed it but I still have nightmares
trying to use it.
.... Waiting for server
.... Waiting for server
.... Waiting for server

What is it waiting *for*?
This happens with all combinations of the new FTP settings (that don't
seem to make a blind bit of difference).
If I drop out to another FTP client (Filezilla) with exactly the same
settings, the upload is instant - in ever case.
This happens constantly whether I'm FTPing to a Linux server or an
W2K3 server.
There is clearly something wrong with the FTP model in DW and I'd
really like MM to tackle it once and for all. It's a major pain and a
productivity drain.

Rant over.

It has been mentioned many times before. Almost all of them have turned out
to be local problems.

What is your Firewall? Have you set passive FTP for your remote site
definition?

If that fails to solve the problem, then I recommend you contact Macromedia
directly and use one of your one-on-one support incidents.

I stated in my original post that I have tried every possible
combination of the new FTP settings, so that includes using passive
mode. I also said that exactly the same settings in other FTP clients
present no problems whatsoever.
The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it's fine but often it isn't. I
have found that if I break the connection to the server and then
reconnect, this sometimes works. There is absolutely no doubt in my
mind that the problem is with DW's FTP implementation. How much proof
do I need?
I have the problem whether in the office, going through the company
firewall or at home going through ZoneAlarm. I have even switched off
ZA for testing purposes and the results are exactly the same -
'Waiting for server' in DW, instant get/put in another client.

Yes, I will do this but I fear it will be turned back to me despite
the fact that so many people report the same problem.

If you open a trouble ticket, they will do everything they can to help you
eliminate Dreamweaver from the equation. Having done that, it then must be
your computer or its environment.

If you want to send me your connection information offline, I can try
connecting from my machine, but if the problem is intermittant, then it
strongly suggests a local network issue.

Thanks for your continuing responses but when you say 'it strongly
suggests a local network issue' I just don't think you can be reading
my posts fully.
I've said that EVERY time I have trouble FTPing in DW I have to drop
out to a dedicated FTP client where the upload works instantly and
flawlessly each and every time.
I use FTP for a number of things outside of DW and have several
automated scripts running daily through the same firewall on the same
network. I never have trouble with anything apart from the trouble I
have with Dreamweaver. There's now way it can possibly be anything
other than an issue with that software.

I'll see what MM support can dream up...

I saw that and found it unconvincing.

It has been my experience that with the last two versions of DW (7.0 and
7.0.1) every FTP problem falling roughly into this domain of problems that
has been tracked to completion, has been a problem with local operating
environment. This is notwithstanding the original poster's adamant
insistence that this could not be the case since other FTP programs
connected properly.

But - I dunno. I can only go on how it works for me, how I have seen it
work for other people, and what is posted here on this forum....
