Default editing external CSS > trouble - 08-17-2004 , 03:14 AM

I don't know if this is happening also on Windows, but on Mac I get the
following behaviour:

I have an XHTML document and the external stylesheet open at the same time in
DW2004 (7.0.1)
I import the stylesheet in the xhtml doc using:
<style type="text/css" media="screen">
@import "my.css";
</style>

Now as an example:
I drag an absolutely positioned element in the design view of the xhtml
document.
The left and top properties are changed by this.
Now I switch back to the css, which should reflect these changes.
I does NOT.
Obviously something changed in the css document, since I now would have to
save it before I can close it... but i don't see the changes reflected. If i
save it, the changes i made in the xhtml document are not saved (in my.css).

Couriously enough, I found out, I have to open up the prefs, and klick OK.
That will refresh the CSS.

Anybody else having this annoying problem? Any workarounds (other than mine),
tips?

Cheers,
Phil

The best advice I can muster is that it's a very, very bad idea to move
an absolutely positioned element around the screen in Dreamweaver Design
View if you've defined that element's style in a style sheet. If you
grab the wrong part of that element and inadvertantly resize it, not
only will Dreamweaver edit your rule but it will also add an unwanted
height property.

Thanks for the clarification, Al.
However, it is a flaw in the DW2004 application.
Why would MM let you move absolutely positioned elements if they don't expect
you to?

Hmmmmm.......maybe for the same reasons they have a menu behavior that
shouldn't exist, Layout View which is lethal, and other "features" which by
all rights shouldn't be allowed. Just because your saw will cut a table leg
doesn't mean you should do it.........(:})
