Default E-mail Campaign HTML - 05-27-2004 , 08:53 AM

I'd like to run a little e-mail newsletter to a hundred or so customers. Can
I build the html in DreamWeaver and get it into Outlook Express for that
purpose? Or do I have to go with a specialized application?

Thanks in advance...

No you can use dw.

Just make sure the dimensions are set for outlook window rather than a
standard web page.
Once the page is complete, save it in a template folder somewhere + when you
create a message, choose - 'message' / 'new using' / 'select stationary'.

DW will work fine. You need to make all links to images absolute
(http://www.mydomain.com/myimage.jpg). There's a good tutorial on this at
http://www.dwfaq.com.

I thought that too patty, but i have found that you can simply send the
message and the images are stored on a server somewhere. How long they stay
there i don't know, but i have sent emails like this + the recipient
receives it fine.

I think your images were embedded in the email. This will dramatically
increase the file size of the message - maybe an issue, maybe not. Also, I
think the success depends upon the recipient's email client - if you know
all your recipients are using OE, you are probably OK.

check the filesize of those outgoing msgs, and check their Properties to see
the actual source. Probably the images have been mime encoded and sent WITH
the msg as an attachment.

I see. In that case, you would also have to uncheck 'format' / 'send
pictures with message' (assuming it is already checked).

At least i'll know for future reference. Many Thanks!

Please pardon me for piggy-backing...

I have tried sending an html e-mail after creating it in DW and sending it in
Outlook Express 5. The method I used in OE was to "insert text file," and
browse to my html document. But OE inserted the text in the body of the e-mail
and I couldn't seem to alter the souce code of the e-mail.

I also tried using the technique listed by selecting "message/new using/select
stationary" but I don't have that option in my version of OE.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks.
