Default e-commerce for a dummy - 11-20-2004 , 02:08 PM

Hi Folks,

I know that this is a Dreamweaver forum, but you all have been so helpful.

The world of e-commerce has me confused. I have a client who wants to
accept credit cards over the phone and online. I want to make sure that
the transactions as secure, easy, and inexpensive.

Any suggestions and URLs would be welcomed.

Thanks.

Hello Vanessa;

Diving into e-commerce can be a little daunting at first, but it's well
worth the effort. Your value to clients will definitely higher if you can
help them understand how to generate revenue from their web site, and
develop a good shopping cart solution for them. So take a deep breath, and
dive in!

Here are a few things you may find helpful...

This is a 3 part article on e-commerce/shopping cart development that I
wrote for Macromedia Dev Net, You may find it useful:

http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/dreamweaver/articles/build_shopping_cart.html

After reading this you may want to take a look at the listing of shopping
cart applications that work with Dreamwaver. Often times this type of
application will give you a good place to start and save you from having to
learn a programming language to going.

http://www.dwfaq.com/Resources/e-Commerce/default.asp

I, of course, am a little partial to the first one listed. :-) But the ones
on this list generally all have good reputations.

Hope you find this helpful.

Inexpensive - what about free :-) Look at www.mals-e.com
A good system for small businesses wanting to start off in ecom. They can
always expand to more customised shopping carts if the need arises. The
orders are handled by Mals, but then the customer processes the CCs
themselves.
