Default DWMX and removing Contribute functionality - 07-06-2004 , 03:07 AM

Hi all,

I created a site and being new to DW activated everything in the preferences -
including contribute, check in/check out etc. I now find of course that this
puts .lck files everywhere, copious design notes etc which I don;t need. I
disabled all contribute functions and check in check out functions, and design
notes and now when I syncronise get told that someone else is working on the
file etc. It allows me to synch if I click on Yes but this site has LOADS (like
thousands) of pages and objects in it.

How can I remove all "memory" of these prefs? Also can I stop DW promping me
to turn contribute on when I launch it?

These issues are slowing my progress down somewhat and it doesn't seem to
matter what I do! I would be really grateful if someone had a nice easy answer
for this newbie.

Cheers

canned msg below-

--Do you have Contribute users on this site?
then click to enable contribute usage- there's no way around it, and it's
not aproblem.

--Do you not have any contribute users on this site?

Then- one of two ways-
-Method One- If you have MX6.1 dreamweaver, go to dw menu--> Site--> Admin
Contribute Site. enter admin password.
click "site wide settings"
click "remove contribute"

-method two- if can't access the Admin screen in Dreamweaver or in
Contribute:
connect to remote site with a Different FTP client
(can't do it in dreamweaver because folders with a leading _underscore are
hidden)

find the _mm folder at site root.
open it, and delete the contribute.xml file.

that removes ALL contribute connection ability. Any contribute users are now
locked out (refer to my first question- do you have contribute users?)

You can also delete the _baks folder if it exists- it will contain the
Rollback previous versions of pages.
