As a new user of DW MX 2004, can you experts recommend to me any "must have"
DW Extensions?

Thanks, CMA

Hi yea,
As a hugh fan of dreamweaver extensions I can say that I have nearly every
commercial extension there is, lol ok I am a sucker, but here goes, I will
list the must have extensions that I think make life a lot easier and on top
of that let you work a lot faster. please note I have not placed the
extensions in order of preference.

1. Pure Upload and the add on pack from Geroge at http://www.DMXzone.com
brilliant for uploading the likes of images or files to your site, the add
on will allow you to reduce the image size and resolution with great ease.

2. Layer Genie from
http://www.flevooware.nl/dreamweaver/extdetails.asp?extID=18
this is a kinda must have in some ways as it can help you create some really
fancy menus and have them snapped to any where on your page in seconds. I
find it hasstle free, and has a mountain of uses.

3. WA Universal Email from
http://www.webassist.com/Products/ProductDetails.asp?PID=13
this Email extension has a million and one uses too, for any site, I also
have the smart mailer extension from
http://www.dmxzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=5578 , out of them both I
prefer the one from webassist.

4. the Query extension
http://www.interaktonline.com/products/QuB/ this is not only a must have
extension but one of my fav, the amount of time I have saved with this. if
for instance you have to create a one to many, many to many or that likes
this extension make it simple. you dont have to have it as yes one can hand
code, but one to many and many to many can be complex code and this
extension makes it a dream. I also have the Query extension from webassist
but find it creates too much code andis really only good for intranets.
where as interakts extension is best for the web.

5. Insert Record and Retrieve Autonumber
http://www.dwteam.com/help/insertretrieve/
ttis one is a must have from Tom Muck. the extension speaks for itself .

6. horizontal looper
http://www.tom-muck.com/extensions/help/HorizontalLooper/ another brilliant
extension from Tom

7. Tree Menu from http://www.projectseven.com
I have all the extensions from projectseven, and find the treemenu extension
very good, I have the magic menu ones too but I tend to use layer Geni more
, this is just out of preference. the extension productivity tools I really
like too.

8. ecart extension from webassist
http://www.webassist.com/Products/ProductDetails.asp?PID=19 , there are
other carts around, but I like the one from webassist.

9.(Visit Counter V2.1) by: Felice Di Stefano - http://www.felixone.it
simple extension but nice to have.

10 this one is an extension that has not been released for asp users as yet
but I am waiting eargly in anticipation for,

http://www.interaktonline.com/products/ImpAKT/

the multi delete and the rest are worth waiting for. it is available for PHP
users and I have been informed the asp version will be available very very
soon.

11. the html editor from http://www.dmxzone.com I have been considering
getting the html editor from interakt to compar it with but will have to
wait until I am rich.

Any way as I said I am a sucker for extensions , there are lots of great
free extensions out there i.e. like frrom http://www.projectseven.com (they
have a great support forum too) . some dont like the concept of extensions
but I like them and the above are among my fav.

Thanks to Bill and Two Can's for the recommendations. However, those were
commercial extensions but I found some good ones on the Macromedia website.
Cheers, CMA

Hi Nadia,
I had a look at that extension before but seen it does not mention it is
compatable for MX 2004 I found I had to be very careful in the extensions I
install as they can crupt the extension manager.

You are absolutely correct two cans. I haven't updated yet, so didn't think
of even mentioning this.
Maybe someone can confirm whether it works on their DWMX2004 installation.
I hope it will be available when I do upgrade, I'd hate to be without it
:-) I use it constantly.

also a note- Don't really want to install tons of extensions you won't use.
They slow down the startup, and at some point you may get a "bad" one or
some other conflict will happen. Example- the Coursebuilder extension. Very
handy if you really use it. But it's several megabytes of dead-weight if you
don't really use it.

installing them all the time I just go the the extension manager and switch
them off. that seems to do the trick.
