Default DW CS4 Flash Plugin Not Found - 12-18-2008 , 07:48 PM

I just purchased & activated Dreamweaver CS4, and am working through the
Classroom in a Book lessons. When I select "Live View" I see a pop-up message
that says, "The Flash Plugin was not found. To view flash content in Live
View, install the Netscape/Firefox Flash Plugin from www.adobe.com." I have
already downloaded & installed the Adobe flash player (which does work). When
I did a search for Netscape or Firefox flash plugins on the Adobe site, I draw
a blank (no results). Prior to making this post, I did a search on these
forums and in the DW Help system, and only saw one related post where a fellow
went to view a video of the Top Features of DW CS4 Live View and received the
message there that he needed the flash player to view the video, and was
offered the link to download it there. I'm not just sure where he was
accessing that video, but I had no trouble viewing any of the CS4 videos on the
Adobe site, thus was not given any links to other flash players.

The Live View appears to work once I dismiss the message, but I'm not certain
of this, and would like to eliminate the message (or have all the accessory
programs I require). Can anyone please give me a head's up on how to fix this
issue? I started with the Trial version of DW CS4 then downloaded &
reinstalled the program after purchasing the licence (still get the message
though).

My system: Windows XP Pro / SP 3, NVidia 9800GTX video, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB
(total) drive space. Also have PS CS4, LR2.

Many thanks for any help.

Glenn

The only true test is the online test, of course, but...

Thanks for the system details and detailed steps to repro (snipped).
I think I was the one who assumed the previous poster needed to
download the Firefox plugin, based on the same error message you
reported. Later in the thread I'm thinking of, I was educated to the
fact that Live View uses the Webkit engine rather than Mozilla.[1]

This left me even more confused, since the error message makes no
sense in that context, and that Adobe's site claims that DW CS4's
Live View should show Flash videos by default.

You (I think) are now the 2nd person to report such a situation. Not
a large number of such reports, considering.

I loathe to suggest this, but you might try a DW reinstall. (Export
your site definitions, first.)

If you don't get results that way, I think you might want to use up
a support call with Adobe. And please let us know the results either
way, just in case this becomes more common.

[1. Long shot]
Try installing Apple Safari on that system?

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the assist here. Actually, I did do a reinstall, as I had the
Trial version on first, then when I purchased the program I downloaded it once
again (the message said that the purchased version had features the trial
version didn't, but didn't specify, so I thought that might cure my problem)
and did a reinstall. No joy however.

Since my machine is brand new and still relatively "clean", I likely won't
install Safari on the hopes this will fix the problem, but will put in a
support call to Adobe. I agree that the problem is a fairly isolated one as
even Googling for this problem results in very few hits at all. And, as I say,
as soon as I dismiss the message, Live View seems to work just fine, so this is
a bit of a mystery.

Anyhow, as soon as I get through talking to tech support, I will drop a line
back here and let folks know what I found out in case this does crop up for
others down the road.

Thanks again for the reply. I'll be back .

Glenn

Adobe Support was very helpful for me in this. They sent me the link to the
following file: http://tinyurl.com/fp10r12-winplugin . That worked perfectly.
Problem is solved.

Hope this helps others.

Hello! I am having the exact same problem and have just wasted an hour trying
to figure this out. I tried the URL that worked for you
http://tinyurl.com/fp10r12-winplugin but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Is
there anywhere else I can get this fix?

I really can't believe I spent the money I did on CS4 and have to hunt and
peck to find a solution when I don't even have Firefox!!! In CS4"Web Premium I
have flash - it comes with it - so why do I have to find a flash plugin
elsewhere?

i have the most recent Adobe Flash player installed so ?????

I am really desperate for help.....

Thanks, in advance, for your time!!! : )

Well I guess no one really helps in these forums as I have not received any
assistance or even acknowledgement. Maybe I should have considered a better
vendor before I made such a big investment in this but with a name like Adobe,
I had expectations that are clearing not being met - not even close.

No answer usually means nobody knows the answer. Nothing more. Nothing
less. We are only volunteers here.
