Default DW CS3 Slow over VPN - 06-24-2008 , 09:35 AM

DW has become increasingly slow while connecting to our network via VPN. File
saves/uploads average 1-3 minutes even for the smallest of files. Adobe Tech
Support referred me to their KB articles, but these options either don't work
or apply.

Our company also just updated our VPN network which is noticeably faster when
accesing our mail, intranet and network shares. DW on the other hand is still
very slow. We don't enable check-in/check-out, Norton is not scanning the DW
directories. Our Local site files reside on a network share and porting them
locally to our hard drive is not an option and nor is it an acceptable solution
either. Adobe Tech Support stated working with this setup is not the
recommended way to develop applications, however, this has been a procedure
that I've used with various versions of DW and other IDE's. Working on our LAN
doesn't pose any of these problems.

What do you suggest???

Thanks

It sounds like the local folder of your Site is defined on a network
drive. A much faster (and safer) way to work is to define your Site with
a local folder on your computer's hard drive and a remote folder with
FTP access to your web site. This is faster because you can make many
local edits to many files and then do a single batch FTP PUT operation
when you are ready to commit your changes to your web site. This is
safer because every intermediate change does not get made to your web site.

Hope this helps,

Didn't the first person state that moving the files locally wasn't an option?
I don't believe this is an option for me either. There are several employees
that need access to the centralized website on our network and we must use the
check in/check out feature.
When I access it from home, it takes 18-20 minutes from opening DW (4-5
minutes to just load site cache, initialize files, another 4-5 minutes to log
into my site; another 8-10 minutes to check out a file) to having a file ready
on my screen to edit.

Opening the same file using win explorer takes about 8 seconds.
I'm definitely not a power user, so please go easy on me when I ask What on
Earth is DW doing???

Do you have DW 8.0? It is WAY faster, very snappy. CS3 is just plain slow
by comparison. I have both installed (they cohabitate fine) but I stick to
8.0 because of the slowness problem. Maybe when a patch is released I'll
get to try CS3 out for more than 5-10 minutes before I get too frustrated
and quit.
