Then all of those links will need to be remade. A template cannot contain
such links simply because you must not put any files into the Templates
folder other than the template files themselves.

Hi again,
I am going to post this up top too because I have clarified the problem now:
I have been experimenting with this problem and here is what is happening:

I am working on revisions on an old site that was created in a previous
version of DW. When I look at the links in the underlying code of each template,

they look like this:

"page.html"

And when pages that were derived from each of the aforementioned templates are
previewed in a browser the links work properly....

However, once I change a template in DW8, (I am not changing anything to do
with the links) then the links in the child pages do not work any more unless I
change the links in the underlying code of the parent template to "../page.html"

I am on a Mac. Can anyone help? This is really weird.

Elizabeth

This is exactly what should happen, Elizabeth.

Links in templates should have ALWAYS been relative to the template file.
Previous versions or DW were broken in that it allowed manually created
links to slip through the cracks. DW8 plugged that leak.

In DW8, all links in your template files must be either document relative
(to the template), or root relative.

More wierdness - So I took the whole site (the one inwhich changing a template
in DW8 made the links from the child page not work) and transfered it to my
laptop on which I still have DW2004, and changed the template again in the
older program - and guess what,, all the links on the child page work again..

Murray... and the links in the underlying template do still have the
"page.html" format.

please advise

It's wrong. It's an error. It has always been an error. A link like that
in a template page implies that the linked page is in the Templates folder.
DW8 fixed this error. You are not paying attention to what I am saying....

I read them as they came in to the forum. Perhaps you *wrote* them out of
synch? 8)
