Default DRWMX2004, runs very slow with many "screen flashes"??? - 06-23-2004 , 02:47 PM

Is anyone else experiencing Dreamweaver MX2004 running very slow. It takes
forever to save changes locally, and in doing so it seems to have many
"flashes".

The machine I am running the software on, is a PC. I've got the latest
service pack for DRWMX installed. I am running Windows XP Pro sp1, with all
service packs and hotfixes installed.

The hardware is Intel P4 2.6ghz, 1.5gb of Crucial ram, 128mb ATI Radion
9200Pro video card, 80gb WD HD.

When I am experiencing the problems, I have NOTHING else running. I have
even gone in and shutoff many services to make sure that I do not have
something else interfering with it.

I've run out of ideas, and am looking for any other suggestions. I really
don't want to try rebuilding my W/S just to try and fix this if there is an
easier way to resolve this issue.

Thanks,

Tim

Have you tried disabling your antivirus as a test? (As in, turn off
real-time scanning and reboot) Especially if it's Norton which can have a
problem with DW.

Ok, I'm running Symantec AV CE v9.0.

I tried disabling the real-time AV protection, rebooted. Still the same. So
it is not from the AV.

Any other ideas?

Tim

Default Re: DRWMX2004, runs very slow with many "screen flashes"??? - Temporary resolution - 06-24-2004 , 04:32 PM

Ok, a bit of an improvement.

If you have the SUN Java Runtime software installed, remove it and let the
Microsoft JVM run things.
The sun JRE I had installed was version 1.4.2.02 Apparently some flaw within
it has been fixed, the latest version available for download is 1.4.2.04 I
have downloaded it, but have not installed it yet.

I think I will only install it if something will not work without it.
So, now it is a bit slow to initially open the file, and then again a bit
slower than it should be when uploading the files to the server. A bit
"painful", but I can live with this. Other than that, I am no longer
experiencing the MANY screen flashes, and temporary lockups while it was
thinking about me trying to highlight something as simple as a small block
of text.

I hope this helps someone else.

Cheers, Tim

I have had screen flashing problems for quite a while, but they got much worse
yesterday. I thought it was because I had been working with a template and
there was something crazy with that. I was getting javascript errors as well
when making changes to the template and when updating pages based on the
template (not always, but frequently).

I had installed the Sun JRE 1.4.2.04 yesterday so this morning i removed that,
I am still having the flashing problem, sometimes when doing other things even,
just if DW is running at all. I have McAfee AV, I have disabled read on-access
scanning in the folders where I keep my DW projects, didn't make much
difference.

I have DWMX04 (about box says 7.01), WinXP sp1 with all critical updates
applied, I have a Dell Precision 340 with P4 2.2Ghz, 768MB RAM, nVidia Quadro2
MXR/EX with 32MB RAM. I am running this at 1600x1200 32bit color if that makes
any difference. I've been running at that resolution for quite a while with no
noticable change in anything from previous 1280x1024 resolution.

Sometimes simply clicking on the DW interface will stop the flashing,
sometimes not. It is very frustrating. Yesterday while I was trying to update
one site it kept wanting to open a different site (why would that be?) and it
would flash rapidly for several seconds. It also gets extremely slow at times,
it seems to think it needs to check the links in the cache every time I do
anything. This is bad because this is a large site with thousands of links for
it to check.
