Default Drop down menus... - 03-27-2009 , 11:20 AM

I'm working on a website that has been designed by someone else in Photoshop.
They have created drop down menus but if I am to re-create this design for the
web I need to make drop down menus that use imagery.
Can anyone help? I only have experience in creating standard drop downs in
Fireworks. I have never customised one before with imagery.

Check the uberlink and MacFly tutorials at PVII -
http://www.projectseven.com/

and the Navbar tutorial/articles at Thierry's place
http://tjkdesign.com/articles/dropdown/

Or this one (more recent article):
http://tjkdesign.com/articles/Pure_CSS_Dropdown_Menus.asp

Or to get it done fast, go here -

If you're confident in your CSS abilities, Son of Suckerfish menus are the best
choice in my opinion. If you're not familiar with styling list-based menus it
would be quite a learning curve though.

Those menus are highly unusable and inaccessible.

I know you're trying to sell your menus (as always) Al, but how exactly are
the suckerfish menus unusable and inaccessible? They were featured in A List
Apart (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns), and widely considered an
excellent approach to drop-downs. You even said they were a great solution
yourself a month ago. Have your fallen on hard times at Project 7 and taken to
making up crap?

Unbelievable :-) No, I'm not trying to sell my menu and we have not fallen
on hard times. You, on the other hand, are not doing anyone any favors based
on the advice you give. Read the article I posted and keep your personal
remarks to yourself. If you want to ask intelligent questions, then I'm all
ears.

<how exactly are the suckerfish menus unusable and inaccessible?>

Try to navigate through any of the drop down level menus below with keyboard
strokes only (no mouse).

So highly unusable you should buy the $90 Project 7? Pop-Menu Magic? menu
right? Pfft.

Here's Javascripted version of Suckerfish that allows for full keyboard
support. I just saved everyone $90!

So you don't like the Project 7 menus? I don't think Al will lose any sleep.
I fail to see why you need to get personal and abusive. Speaking for
myself - I tried the Suckerfish menus about 4 years ago and was delighted to
be pointed at the PVII menus and have never looked back. They are good value
for money. IMO of course.
