Default Dreamweaver won't start - 09-01-2006 , 05:21 PM

Please help...

Suddenly my Dreamweaver won't start up! When I click on it I get an egg-timer
for a few seconds then it stops and nothing happens. On occasions it gives me
the option of design or code view, and then nothing. I've uninstalled and
re-installed twice but it's still the same. Fireworks and Flash to start up
fine. Any ideas?

I would suggest claening out your Browser Cache and also doing a Disk Cleanup ,
also run a good spyware tool such as Adaware SE or similar , then do an online
virus scan with www.trendmicro.com or www.pandasoftware.com.

I take it that you have restarted your PC a couple of times.?.

Try the Murray-fix:
Quit DW.

Find this folder -

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
MX 2004\Configuration,
and rename it (say xConfiguration).

Restart DW. Works better?

Hope this helps

Jo

I don't have an application data folder. However, if I do the same for the folder down within Program Files then I get - "can't find the resources file" and points to the folder.

Now Fireworks has stopped!

I'm trying to run the updater to 7.01 as advised on one of the tech tips, but
I get an error telling me there is a locked file - c:\program
files\macromedia\dreamweaver mx2004\actib.dll

I've had this error message when re-installing on a couple of occasions. If I
choose to ignore it just gives me loads more locked files.

I know you said "HP Home" but I assumed you meant XP Home.
If you cannot see C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\
then you may have to go to My Computer, then click View > Folder Options >
View > [Hidden files and folders] select Show hidden files and folders. Then
follow the Murray-fix.
You shouldn't have to access your Program files at all (and frankly
shouldn't for this)

Yes, you do. If you follow my instructions, you will find it.

I've uninstalled MX2004 and borrowed a copy of Dreamweaver 8. I can now view
the hidden files (thanks Jo - never thought of that!) but get the same thing
after installing it. I can't get to the path suggested - I get C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia\Licensing\Products or
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Macromedia\Licensing\Licensing

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>

where <user> is YOUR user name on the computer.
