Default Dreamweaver MX 2004 locking up - 08-03-2004 , 12:39 PM

I've used Macromedia products for a long time, but I've never experienced a
product crashing in the middle of important things as often as the new
Dreamweaver does. I select to send an error report to Microsoft, but that
information doesn't get to Macromedia.

We've installed the update, and the problem actually got worse after that.
We've rebuilt a few times but no luck.

Are there any known issues with this application that make it want to crash so
much?

How can I get the error report information to Macromedia to help fix this?

Thanks
Jason

Diagnosing such problems is very hard without complete information about
your computer and its operating environment. Can you please tell me -

0. What is your version of Dreamweaver?
1. What is your OS?
2. What is your AntiVirus?
3. Is your AntiVirus doing realtime protection?
4. What is your Firewall?
5. What other background programs are running?
6. What Dreamweaver extensions do you have installed?
7. Are you *running* DMX from a network shared drive?
8. Where are your 'local' files? Are they on a network shared drive?
9. Have you ever been able to run DMX or is this a recent failure?
10. Does this only seem to happen with certain files/sites?
11. Does recreating the site cache (SITE | Recreate Site Cache) help?
12. Are you using *any* OS-improving utilities like "TweakUI" for example?
13. Are you logging on as an ADMINISTRATOR, or do you have admin
privileges?

0. What is your version of Dreamweaver?
MX 2004 with update

1. What is your OS?
Win XP Pro

2. What is your AntiVirus?
Symantec Antivirus Corp Edition

3. Is your AntiVirus doing realtime protection?
Yes

4. What is your Firewall?
I?d have to ask the network guys, but that isn?t the problem. This is all
inside the firewall.

5. What other background programs are running?
None

6. What Dreamweaver extensions do you have installed?
ASP.NET Form Controls
CF XHTML Editor
ColdFusion MX Functions Reference
Hand-Coder Right-Click Tools
O?REILLY ASP.NET Reference
Team Administration Extensions
Visitor Information Tracking

7. Are you *running* DMX from a network shared drive?
Absoloutely not.

8. Where are your 'local' files? Are they on a network shared drive?
Local files are local, not on shared drive

9. Have you ever been able to run DMX or is this a recent failure?
It?s off and on. It could not happen for a few days, and then happen 10 times
in a day.
No consistency.

10. Does this only seem to happen with certain files/sites?
Nope, across three different sites with dynamic files and static cfm pages,
the problem remains.

11. Does recreating the site cache (SITE | Recreate Site Cache) help?
Nope, Tried that several times.

12. Are you using *any* OS-improving utilities like "TweakUI" for example?
No

13. Are you logging on as an ADMINISTRATOR, or do you have admin
privileges?
I am not logged on as ADMIN, but I do have those rights.

Yes
Please exclude the Macromedia Program folder from your realtime scan.

That doesn't matter. Clearly something in your environment is preventing
you from running DW.

In fact, a good test would be to disconnect from the net before trying to
start DW.

Please try disabling *all* of them before your next attempt to run DW.

This really points to something changing unpredictably in your operating
environment.

Give those a try, please.
