My guess is that Spammers will developp server software that fights the
spam they receive as a result of anti-spam fighting software, so that
they can counter-fight the spam to their own spam:
anti-spam-spamming-spam strategies, that will make your SFTFB obsolete.

And I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's going to happen.

I agree with you on that point. I just believe that the additional burden
will be minimal and short lived, since, as spammers drop off, it will
counter that burden. Only in the very beginning, will there be an increased
burden. In fact, some of the big players in the spam arena are reportedly
looking into other forms or business, in anticipation of SFTFB software.
They might well drop out, before they are forced out, in which case, the
additional burden will be absorbed by their leaving, before the burden
occurs. At any rate, any additional burden will be short lived, since as the
volume of spam goes down, the SFTFB volume will go down, as well.

seb:

I agree with this. I think there will be a continual progression of these
*until* there are fines/jail and some visibility for the spammers....

As I understand what John posted, assuming that the company doing the
advertising is not the same as the company sending the spam, there would
be no direct impact on the spammer. The impact would be on the company
that is using the spammer to send out their UCE. The impact on the
spammer would be indirect, in that sending the stuff out would cease to
be productive.

On the other hand, fines/jail, etc., would probably not be effective
either since the operations would simply move off-shore. The *real*
answer is for the public not to be so gullible that they respond to the
junk.

Sadly, you are probably right. Fat chance of that happening....
