Default Dreamweaver and Linux? - 11-18-2003 , 03:58 PM

I am first assuming that Dreamweaver does not work on Linux. That said, I am
wondering if I were to work from home and FTPing into the Linux server.

First of all, is this possible?
Generally, what will the problems be?
How does the database stuff work...in other words, does it work pretty much
the same as windows?
Will things like plugins like Smart Image Uploader or similar plugins work?
I am guessing not.

Dreamweaver will run under emulation on Linux, providing one uses what's
called the Crossweaver WINE product. It's not free. If you're going to
pay for the plugins to run on Linux, one might as well just use a PC
with Windoze on it. I mean what's the point?

In terms of working from home via FTP, sure no problem. FTP is FTP,
doesn't matter what platform the server is on, and yes use it as a
testing server.

I always design my sites on Windows, but deploy on Linux, so, yes, you
would be able to do what you suggest.

I'm not sure about Smart Image Uploader. You might need to consult the
extension writer's site.

There is an application called CrossOver Office which enables you to
run Dreamweaver MX6 on Linux. I have it installed on my Linux machine,
and it works well.

But in the case of deploying websites, you can FTP them to any server
you like, while designing them on Windows with Dreamweaver.
