Default Dreamweaver Links - 06-25-2004 , 02:04 PM

I'm a Dreamweaver rookie.

I've read to avoid frames so I've created a Dreamweaver site utilizing tables.
My table structure consists of 2 rows and 1 column. The top row consists of an
imported Fireworks pop-up navigation bar with sub-menus. The bottom row will
consist of pages from the selected links provided from the pop-up menu.

How do target the bottom table for my links from the navigation menu? I know
how to create the link but can't find information about how to target the
bottom table. I did find info about targeting frames, but was advised not to
utilize frames due to miscellaneous browser complications.

Is there a way to target tables from a link?

there is No practical way to do this, unless it's not much text.
Even then, there are usability problems with show/hide layers with the new
content in the layers (printing, bookmarking, search engines)

the way to go is to make copies of the present page, with new filenames (or
make it a Dreamweaver Template and New-->From that template) and link to
the new page with the new content.

I'm still pretty new myself but it sounds like you need to place named
anchor (from the "common" palette) into your table. Name the anchor
something like bottomtable then you create a link in your nav bar to
#bottomtable

On re-reading I guess you want the other pages to show up in the table at
the bottom? Sorry, my advice was just to get the link to take you to the
bottom table, which was obvious. (Well, you said "rookie") I'm guessing then
you'd need to use frames to do what you want.

Is there a specific reason you're avoiding frames? If you're not worried
about old browser compatibility and can work around search engine issues it
might be worth considering.
