Dear SnakeEyes I forgot to mention as you requested that I plan on using PayPal
for purchases as I have an existing Business Account with them. Can you adise
just if Dreamweaver is the right product to use for just about all web site
needs like making a forum page?? thanks again and forgive my stupidity but I
dont mind spending money as long as I get what I need so your comments are
extremely important to me. Thank you again

Dear FatCat thank you very much for your reply. I have seen adds for hundreds
of examples of free or open source programs that make forum pages, I just want
one good program that will allow me to do just about anything I want to do with
a website and wondered from an experienced user's point of view if Dreamweaver
were such a program. I use PayPal on a business account so that part will be no
big issue but I really want a simple forum/discussion page as I am a programmer
and want to share ideas and things with users of my programs or other issues. I
love to talk with folks from around the world with a common interest. Thank you
again and forgive my stupidity but could you be justt a little more specific in
reagrds to drewmweaver making forum type pages? Thank you very much.

No, Dreamweaver will NOT do everything you want right out of the box. You
can use it to deploy a forum like phpBB (the one I use) but you'll need to
know at least a bit of PHP. And, to use DW itself successfully you need an
understanding of HTML & CSS.

Comparing DW to any of the so-called sitebuilders is like comparing the
actual assembly of a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle to the picture on the puzzle
box.

Hi Pss,

I use DW every day, but when I need a forum for a client, I use a free one,
such as Snitz. Building a forum from scratch would be like re-inventing the
wheel to build a go-kart.

DW will do lots of stuff, but certain things like forums and e-commerce
sites (basically anything involving server-side programming) takes a bit of
learning to do, as well as lots of hours of your time.

If I were you, I would download a free forum of the type supported by your
host (Windows or Linux), and install it in your site - all you'd have to do
with your existing web building software is to make the links to the forum
folder - you could have the forum up and running in an hour, for free!

Aloha,

Jerry

That's the correct answer. DW is not a 'push button' application. To do
ANY of what is being asked will require LOTS of knowledge, effort and
experience on the user's part. I don't think DW is the right approach for
the original poster. Find a host that offers sitebuilders that can add
these functions and let it go at that.

Here is the best advice I can give you. When the trial becomes available again
on July 1st, go and download it. You will be able to see what we are talking
about how Dreamweaver can do this, but that for items like forums there are
solutions out there to make this process very easy for you. Personally
speaking I paid for Invision Power Board ( http://www.invisionpower.com ). If
you were to use their hosting solution they will allow you to use a board
(although they do lock the files if you do not buy a license), but if the forum
will be a big part of your site it is not a bad deal.
