Dreamweaver Extentions

This is a beginner question. Can someone please tell me how dreamweaver
extensions work, where you put them on your computer, and how to apply them
when you use dreamweaver. If there is an online tutorial, please let me know.
I know this is a stupid question, but before I start using them, I want to
understand them more. I always see advice on this forum about using various
extentions, but I have never done this before.

There is a great overview of how to use Extensions, install them, manage
them etc, right in the DW Help docs. Click
Help/UsingDreamwever/IndexTab/ enter "Extensions".
