Default Dreamweaver CS3 installs but won't open - please help! - 05-21-2008 , 03:13 PM

Dear Dreamweaver forum members,

Please help me out. I am a web designer, trying to get the free trial of
Dreamweaver CS3 to run on my new laptop before I hand over my cash for the full
version.

The program installed perfectly, but when I double click the shortcut to open
DW, the green splash screen appears for a second or two, before the whole thing
disappears. There's no error message or any trace of the application in the
task manager. (Other trial versions like Photoshop CS3 and Flash are working
brilliantly).

I'm at the end of my tether with it now, having already been in touch with
Adobe tech support three times. Here's what I've tried so far:

- Uninstalled and re-installed Dreamweaver CS3
- Deleted all CS3 files from the C:/users/i]user[/i]/roaming/adobe folder
(I've also tried deleting from the 'local' folder, but the problem still occurs
next time I open DW)
- Created a new administrator account and tried again - still no luck
- Disabled the Aero graphics on Windows Vista
- Ran program as an administrator

I'm running WIndows Vista Home Premium on a new Acer Aspire 6920 (which is
more than powerful enough for this program). The technical support team at John
Lewis, who I bought the computer from, claim it is for Adobe to fix. Adobe say
there is nothing they can do until I pay up for the full version - but they
can't guarantee it will work when I do.

Please, please reply if you have any ideas of what I could try.

Thank you in advance,

Steve

I would LOVE to hear the answer to this as well... I am waiting on an answer
for the exact same problem. Seeing your post makes me think there is something
unique to the Acer Aspire.

I have exact same computer (6920) and I have the exact same problem.

I tried all of the tech bulletins I found in various places and I still can't
get it to run. I could really use some help on this as I am dead in the water
right now.

One other note: all other programs in CS3 Web Premium work just fine. I can open Photoshop, Illustrator, Contribute, etc.

Dreamweaver is the only program that does not work.

Need help!!!

Hey ACE_Design,

Well, after weeks of communications with Adobe (who are absolutely useless,
rude and unhelpful by the way) I fixed the bug.

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Acer eData Security Management. Run
Dreamweaver. Hey presto. It works.

The eData program is useless and annoying anyway, but I'd recommend you make
sure you're covered by some other security software instead.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

PS - I have no idea why this works, but it does!

THANK YOU!!

That worked and I am up and running. I never got an answer back from Adobe
support and Acer just said "it is not our problem".

I only wonder what I am actually losing deleting that software

You aren't losing anything when you delete preloaded, proprietary software, trust me. All you get is lost resources and headaches and you just found out.
