Default Dreamweaver 'code view' destroys HTML - 11-09-2004 , 12:15 PM

When I open an HTML, PHP or ASP file in Dreamweaver it sprinkles unnecessary
line breaks on almost every other line, making a complete mess of well
formatted code. Even worse, in code view it word-wraps using hard carriage
returns!! How dumb can this program be? and what's more it does this even with
word-wrapping turned off! Every day I spend an hour or two in Notepad
cleaning up the mess regurgitated by Dreamweaver. How can I stop Dreamweaver
turning well formatted code into double spaced spaghetti with misplaced and
unwanted hard carriage returns?

I don't think you can. It's always had that bug from what I can tell.

At least it's infinitely better than VS.net ;o)

EdMX,

Either don't use Code view or use Notepad.

Or ... dig carefully through the preferences, because you can tell
Dreamweaver exactly how you want each tag to be formatted, such that when
you run the Apply Source Formatting command, it will format as you desire.
See Edit > Preferences > Code Format.

Of course you can change it. You do so in preference.

You can learn about a lot of these tips by picking up a copy of "Killer Tips
for Dreamweaver MX (2004)." DW has plenty of tweaks that adjust the
appearance.

ALSO, you didn't mention which version of DW you are using. If you don't
have HomeSite+ installed look on the install disk to see if it is available.
It might function more in the way you expect.
