Default Is Dreamweaver a bug-ridden mess? - 08-03-2004 , 08:54 PM

Ok, maybe the subject line is a bit strong, but version 7.0.1 on Windows is so
buggy that I'm having a rough time getting work done. In particular,

--It crashes about half the time I run the link checker for broken links. I
can't even close the app afterward. I've got to have the operating system kill
the process.
--Changes that I make to templates refuse to propagate out to the pages that
use the templates.

I've run into a great many small problems as well, but the two items above are
really preventing me from getting the current job done.

Is anyone else having these problems, and do we know when the next updater is
due?

Hmmm strange. Ive not had ONE single crash, or blip, or anything whatsoever.
Ive been running DW MX 2004 for about 3 months and have done most everything I
can think of doing with it. Link checking, etc etc. It may not be a DW
problem so much as a system problem. Im running Windows 2000 pro. System
specs are (if it matters AT ALL) 2.4 ghz pentium 4, 512 DDR RAM. Now I will
say that I have it loaded on an older computer as well. 750 ghz pentium 3
running 256 SDRAM. I have had DW crash on THAT machine. Not often but it
definately runs slower, and has hung a couple of times. Are you sure you have
enough RAM etc? Probably a dumb question, but some people just dont know about
it.

I've been running 7.01 for a about a month on XP and had no problem so far.
Have you got a virus checker? and is your "OS" fully patched.

Nope. It's a champ for me.

What is your AntiVirus?

Here are five ways to make changes not propagate from Template to child -

1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which will not
propagate)
5. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template and child page
is broken

The latter problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site
Cache, and the three others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you
done any of those?
