Default Dreamweaver 8 questions - 07-14-2008 , 10:55 AM

New user to Dreamweaver here...and web production in general so go easy on me.
=)

Anyway, I am sorta learning my way around this program for simple things like
editing text and doing some minor changes to links. Today I was just going to
correct a typo on our website and for some reason, trying to upload the
modified file to the site is not changing anything. I've refreshed the site and
even used different browsers and computers and it still will not show the
correction.

Also, how can I create a HOME button that can be clicked on from anywhere on
the site? The banner stays up there just fine, but I would like to make a part
of it clickable so it can return users to the home page.

http://medicalboard.iowa.gov/

Thanks.

Give us a link to the page, and tell us what to look for, please.

How many pages do you want to make this modification on?

http://medicalboard.iowa.gov/AlphaList.html

This is the page with the typo. Scroll down under C and youll see "Conflic of
Interest" That needs to be changed.

As far as the HOME page link, I don't have an exact number on how many pages I
would probably do this for. Off the top of my head I am thinking a couple dozen.

I'm assuming that each page would have to be changed, right? I mean, the
site was not set up with DW templates, or with SSI for that part of the
page, right?

When you select this site in the Files panel, and then expand the Files
panel, so that Remote files/folders are on the left, and Local files/folders
are on the right, what is the name of the folder you see at the VERY TOP of
the Remote file list? What are the names of the folders you see next below
that one?

I see the

\

And under that are a bunch of folders relating to the site.

medicalboard, cgi-bin, contact_us, faq, logs, etc etc

I didnt setup the site originally so I don't know what was used to create it.

Sounds like your site definition is not correct for the Host directory. Do
you see a folder there called "public_http" or perhaps "httpdocs" or
"htdocs"?

Nope. Don't see anything similar.

Not sure why this isn't working for me today. I was able to make small changes
last week no problem. No errors here, but it's just not updating and I haven't
made any major changes to my computer or dreamweaver.

Can you successfully upload a test page, and see it by browsing to the site?

I've tried making minor changes to other pages and they aren't updating either. DW says transfer complete and doesnt report any errors in the log.

Then it is either a) you are uploading to the wrong location, or b) your
host is caching the site. Speak to your host and ask them two questions -

1. Are they caching the site?
2. What is the name of the folder that holds the root of the website?

The answer to #2 must be what you put into the Host directory field in your
Remote site definition.
