Default Dreamweaver 4 Crashing on Exit - 11-29-2004 , 11:34 AM

After making page changes and saving from the menu... all seems well enough.
However, when I go to exit the program I am prompted to save changes.
Regardless of whether I say yes or no, I get a pop stating the program has
performed an illegal action and will close. I am also prompted to send a report
to Microsoft. Help!!!! BTW, I have uninstalled and performed a clean install
to no avail.

What extensions do you have installed?

Not sure of your question?? What extensions are you referring to?? DreamWeaver
worked flawlessly until I dloaded a demo of MX and since then, nothing I do
will return to me a working version of DW 4. It will not save the changes,
crashes and closes on exit?? I'm running XP Pro with all criticals and service
pack 2 installed. Thanks.

Dreamweaver extensions are like plugins that you can add to the program. Do
you have any installed?

No, it's a clean install. Stock as a rock. In fact, I just uninstalled DW 4
earlier (again) and installed DW 3 and I get the exact same error on close.
Prompts me to save (even though I already have) presents the error message with
options to debug, send or don't send to MS and regardless of what I choose,
program closes and no changes are saved??? Thanks.

Neither DW4 nor DW3 are really XP savvy. I'm sure that this must be your
problem. Contact MM and see if they can help....

You said: "Neither DW4 nor DW3 are really XP savvy."

I was running DW 4 just fine from my work station with XP Pro before this
hiccup... I also run DW 3 from my home system with XP Pro, no problems. In
fact, I'm having to do all my web work from home because of this little
problem. I hate to ghost a new image on my machine because of this snafu, but
I'm running out of options. Thanks for your help.

DW4 was released at least 2 years before XP was. XP has a very different
folder structure with regard to the My Documents folders, since XP is a
multiple user OS and W98 was not. In the case of DW4/3, they will look for
certain files in folders that do not exist in those locations in WXP. I'm
pretty sure that this is the cause of your problems.

If this is a retail version, then I recommend you contact Macromedia
directly and use one of your one-on-one support incidents.
