dreamweave mx hangs while booting up

all of a sudden dreamweaver mx hangs while booting up... the screen shows
'initializing site' when it stops working. i think it might be because of
the last site i was working on..

is there a way that i can change the 'default' site so that i can hopefully
get back into dreamweaver.... help!?!?

I was just about to post a question about this same

thing. I worked around the problem by turning off the
welcome screen. Just click the "Don't show this again"
box in the lower left corner.

It seems to be some kind of a problem when the welcome
screen goes out to Macromedia.com to get any update
information. I really liked the welcome screen, but it
doesn't help much if I have to try several times before
I can get DreamWeaver loaded.

I have the same problem, strange thing is it always works after I 'end task'
and restart dreamweaver. I like the splash screen and don't really want to get
rid of it. Are Macromedia going to fix this glitch?

Ask them! Don't expect an answer though....

And yet another user with the same problem.... Turning of the welcome screen
seems to have fixed it, but I would like to be able to use it, primarily for
quick access to my recently opened files. Hoping Macromedia fixes this in the
next update.

Dreamweaver is hanging on startup. The splash screen appears and the disk
whirs and hums - but no progress is made toward getting into the program.
This is a new install in that the old machine collapsed. This is brand new
hareware with Win XP with latest patches. Tried running Dreamweaver right after
the install and it hangs. Fast drives,new processor with guts (AMD 2.4) 512
meg Ram. The system is running other graphics programs without a hiccup. It
looks like I'm not the only one...
This is a NEW Windows install and the Dreamweaver is version 4 with the
Fireworks 4 program on it.
Any ideas?

To try to get to the bottom of the problem after installing Ultradev (both
Dreamweaver and Fireworks) I installed FLASH MX which works fine. I then
Uninstalled Ultradev's Dreamweaver and installed Dreamweaver from the DW4 disk.
Same problem.
I found an older win2000 machine and reinstalled Dreamweaver 4 on it - no
problems - works fine.

My system reports:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~1998 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 1/16/2004
