Default "Dreamweave Encountered a Fatal Exception" ??? - 10-06-2003 , 05:03 PM

I am running Dreamweaver MX on a Windows 2000 system. This dialogue box that says "Dreamweaver has encountered a fatal exception" keeps coming up and then the program shuts down. I encountered this before on my Windows XP machine, but not as often as I do now (I switched jobs and the employer runs on 2000).

I have downloaded the updates etc from Macromedia's website. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks.

Diagnosing such problems is very hard without complete information about
your computer and its operating environment. Can you please tell me -

0. What is your version of Dreamweaver? And when you right click on the DW
executable (dreamweaver.exe), then select Properties > Version, what is the
version number you see in the properties panel?
1. What is your OS?
2. What is your AntiVirus?
3. Is your AntiVirus doing realtime protection?
4. What is your Firewall?
5. What other background programs are running?
6. What extensions do you have installed?
7. Are you *running* DMX from a network shared drive?
8. Where are your 'local' files? Are they on a network shared drive?
9. Have you ever been able to run DMX or is this a recent failure?
10. Does this only seem to happen with certain files/sites?
11. Does recreating the site cache (SITE | Recreate Site Cache) help?

I am encountering the same problem (though on windows xp)

Did you get any response from Technical Support or figure the problem out yourself?

Please relate your symptoms and all pertinent details about your computer
and its environment, just like everyone else in this thread has been asked
to do....

Since I switched to DWMX2004, (using Windows 98 SE), I experience often the same problem too. Not only an error message then opens, but I am unable to close it, strangely (which is different from error messages I get usually), and the only way is to shut down my computer and launch it again. Irritating...
So it seems it is not only with Windows 98 SE, but it has to do with DWMX2004 itself...

What is your System Resources value after a cold boot and after starting
DMX2004? You must know that W98SE is right on the ragged edge of
suitability for running this app.

You also should be aware that there are many people here running DMX2004 on
W2KPro and WXP without incident....

Thank you very much for your reply. Well, it is interesting to know that W98SE is on the ragged edge of suitability for running this app... but there is no information about that on the Macromedia website! I have in front me the box in which Macromedia delivered the CD with DMX2004: W98SE is listed as one of the appropriate configurations... If I had been informed about it before, I would have done otherwise...

I will check what my System Resources value is - I must anyway reboot, since DMX2004 just froze again...

Thank you anyway for the info!

Hi Murray! I have just conducted the test which you recommended. I am not a very technical person, but I copy below the results as I saw them (after a fresh reboot, running DWMX2004):

Memory: 383 Mo RAM
System resources: 44% free
Virtual Memory: 32 bits

I assume this is what you asked? I would very much appreciate your opinion: a technician will probably visit me next week, so in case there is a problem there, he might still do something on the computer in order to improeve performances, possibly...

Thank you for your kind help! Too bad: MX2004 has improvements which are quite useful for me compared with MX!
