Default download a Frontpage site - 12-04-2003 , 12:57 PM

Hi - I need to download a site done in FrontPage and would like to know if
there is a way to grab it with out all the _vti junk that Frontpage does.
Basically how to get the site without the Frontpage footprint!

thanks-
Dana

Depending on how the site's set up, you could try using I.E. Use the Menu
item: FILE / SAVE / and make sure you choose "Web Page Complete." Depending
on the size and structure of the site this might work.

If not, you could use a program like HTTPWeazel to grab the whole site and
just delete the FP junk directories and files.

Dana:

If you are going to be editing the site with DW, and abandon FP, here's how
I would do it.

1. I'd download the remote site to a location on my hard drive. This will
pick up all the pages *after* webbot action so that shared borders and all
are already present. This will *not* pick up any of the server code, but
you are going to have to rebuild that anyhow.
2. I'd define a DW site that points to the root of the FP site you just
downloaded.
3. I'd create a DW template for the pages that captures the "shared border"
effect.
4. I'd copy and paste content from the FP pages to the template child pages
and then save the new child pages with an easily identifiable nomenclature
that is distinct from what was used on the FP site.
5. When the basic site is completed, I'd upload to some staging area, and
by using the browser, I'd verify that the site (as it exists remotely) is
complete.
6. Then I'd create a new DW site in a new location on the hard drive,
connect to and download all the files from the staging site.

You now have a complete site (minus any of the FP extension server-side
code) that has no FP footprint.

There is no real easy way to do this. You could define your site in Dreamweaver and point it to the folder in Frontpage where the files reside, you could create a new folder and copy and paste the files into that new folder and define the site pointing to it.

Whichever way you do it, you will want to download an extension from Macromedia Exchange that cleans up Frontpage code in Dreamweaver and clean up all those files once you have them within the site to strip out any Frontpage code that is extraneous.

Hi, just open the site with frontpage and convert it into a simple folder.
All the _vti junk will be deleted...

bye

For what it's worth, I have never seen anyone use those extensions
successfully.

Hi All -

My files are already on a remote server; http://ADAtech.org NOW, I want to
have them on my local harddisk THEN PUT them on another remote server;
http://homepage.mac.com/cary_renault

My question, is there a DOWNLOADing command in Dream Weaver MX 2004? In other
words, a complete opposite of the PUT command?

I look forward to your prompt professional answer. Please, DO NOT hesitate to
contact me.

Thank you,
Cary
