This program must work for someone? InDesign users? I'm not sure. I bought
it for it's "design" view creation, ala Go-Live, which I'm tempted to
re-install. It seems that DW works best under chaos. If I try to align all my
boxes in clean and precise manner, the output goes bonkers. If I keep things
chaotic, it loves it, seems counter-intuitive to me. Why does your page output
differently from LIVEVIEW to IE to Firefox. Forget about using padding, that
just creates more chaos. I am constantly having to "trick" the program into
giving me what I want to see and my pages are pretty simple, maybe I'm just
simple.

Dear angry_user,
Dreamweaver is a tool, and like all tools, knowledge is key. If you do
not have a good understanding of web technologies and the languages that
go with them (HTML & CSS) then you will be forever an angry user.

There is nothing stopping you from using GoLive, if its what you are
used to then stick with it, as Dreamweaver will not work the same way.

Once you have studied the art of web design, you will realise that you
can not simply draw a box on a screen and fill it with content. This is
not a graphics application, or desktop publishing application, it is a
productivity tool to help you make websites quicker. Learn what the code
is doing and your life will be much simpler.

Actually, I agree with angry_user (please don't flame me!)

The problem with Dreamweaver is two-fold -

One, it was originally made my Macromedia who, IMHO, just employed programmers
that were rejected by Microsoft.

Two, it has to work with HTML and CSS, which are really just two formats that
have been extended to breaking point. HTML comes from really ancient, humble
origins, so it's no surprise that it's been pushed too far. However, CSS is a
relatively modern thing and, to be honest, the guy that invented it should be
put against a wall and shot!

There, I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while now! The more I
play with CSS, the more it drives me up the wall! But, that;s just my opinion -
I'm sure there are plenty of people who's wet dreams include floats and
inherits and absolute positioning that is anything but.

:-) <- just in case you don't realise that this is partly in jest.

Errr.... Mine are.

And I think DW is really quite good. I think that CSS is great fun (the bit
i know) and perhaps people who should be criticised are those who design the
Browsers?

Any technique used improperly will produce unreliable results.
