Default Doctype settings? - 11-23-2004 , 03:31 PM

DW 2004 converts to XHTML compliant pages, but are their other options, like
4.1 transitional HTML? Redoing a bunch of old pages that are not used much
is a serious pain to make them compliant towards XHTML when they will not be
used for modern apps. Some of the old or inherited pages have no doctypes on
them at all.

No, you can uncheck the "make doc xhtml compliant" box (or whatever it
says) both in the preferences and when creating new pages. Then comes
4.01 trans.

Sorry, does this perform an auto conversion on opening an older page and
insert a doctype? I see the prefs to set up your compliance on new pages and
the File>Convert>XHTML but no option to convert a preexisting page
with/without doctype.
I also see that WC3 is asking not just for doctype but ISO designations for
languages as well.

No, it won't change anything in an older page (thank God). You need to
do that manually, e.g. using find and replace, code, sitewide. It's none
of my business, but I assume you're trying to make them xhtml 1.0
strict? Because, AFAIK, xhtml 1.0 transitional doesn't really give any
advantage compared to html 4.01 trans

Yes.
