Default DIV - Layer problems in DW8 Design view - 11-03-2005 , 06:16 PM

I recently upgraded to Studio 8 from Dreamweaver MX (6) and sites I've
previously worked on are now difficult to work on. I am far from new to
Dreamweaver but my way of working has been dramatically disprupted by the
upgrade. When working on any page that has a linked CSS and switching to
design view, anywhere that I click on the page will select the div / layer for
editing and positioning and it is nearly impossible to select a small bit of
text or image for editing properties. How can I turn off this layer selection.
Can anyone provide guidance as to how this is supposed to work because I am
finding it to be a nuisance. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm
on the verge of going back to my previous version and tossing this one away.

I'm not experiencing that at all - sure, the div highlights, but I can
easily select the content within, even in absolutely positioned divs.

Are you defining your positioned elements in your css or inline with the
draw layer tool?

It would help if we could see the page. Can you post a link?

I'll have to mock up a dummy page or two to demonstrate this. The project
itself is classified and I'm not able to show actual pages to anyone outside of
the project team. To clarify, though, I am able to select text/images in the
design view but only after many multiple clicks because the first click will
select the layer/div. I'm finding that most of the time, if I double or triple
click, I will accidentally move the positioning of the layer which then
automatically makes changes in the external css file. As a result, one small
unnoticed alteration before file saves could manifiest itself across the entire
site.
