Default different monitors, different image sizes? - 07-17-2003 , 11:24 PM

By any chance has anyone ever had a problem like this? I'm baffled by the
case of a client that insists in telling me that the images at her website
are showing lots of imperfections, while I tried 6 different monitors and
they're perfect in all of them. Worst of all, as she is a photographer, I've
saved the images initially with 70% of quality, then with 90% as she wanted
them that way (the largest photo is now 169KB!, despite all that I tried to
explain about the matter), and she tells me that she verifies the properties
for the photos on her browser and they show 1/3 of their actual size in
bytes. Of course when I try that with any other computer the correct value
comes up. Her monitor seems to have a real problem (I've seen it myself
once), but that doesn't explain the disparity in the numbers. And now she
tells me her sister's monitor shows the same thing. Is there any notice of a
virus that could do that? I don't believe so, but I sincerely don't see an
explanation for this. By the way, I'm a relatively experienced web designer
who prepares pictures daily for several websites, I work with other
professionals in an advertisement agency, and this is the first such
complaint. It desperates me to think the only way to solve this is doing the
work in front of her monitor to prove I'm right. My credibility level with
her is currently at zero and this situation is depressing me. I would
appreciate any help or light from any unlucky sould that has gone through
similar
experience. Thanks.

Just a guess here but by any chance is the client using AOL? If so, check and see if the AOL image compression is enabled.

If it is, turn it off and the images will look as they are supposed to.

IE6 has a "feature" that will automatically resize images that are TOO big.

You can turn it off via

Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Multimedia,
-->Enable Automatic Image Resizing

Uncheck that box....it's annoying as it reduces the quality of the picture.

Dave, you probably saved my day, I guess that's the problem, because she
uses AOL. Thanks a lot.

Dave,

Thanks anyway, but her sister happens to have other provider, she doesn't
use AOL. There must be some other cause besides that.
