Default design mode cursor bug in Tiger? - 06-21-2005 , 04:52 PM

In design mode in Dreamweaver MX 2004, PBG4, 1GB memory, 10.4.1, the cursor
offset is skewed. By this I mean if you try and highlight some text or insert
some text, it actually makes the changes 2 character spaces to the right of
the blinking cursor. In the code mode, the cursor positioning is fine.

Not sure if this is one of the known bugs because of tiger? BTW... it was
fine in 10.3.9.

Check out the Macromedia web site for the latest on issues with Tiger. There
are some, and there's no ETA when a fix will be available.

I have seen that in earlier OSs and in DW 2004, so it is not a new
problem, if new to you. One thing that can cause it is if you have added
line-spacing to the text. But it sometimes happens with completely
unstyled text as well. The code view has always shown the highlighting
correctly for me.

Although this problem surfaced for the OP with OS X.4, I have seen it in
earlier versions of OS X. As I said before, if text is incorrectly
highlighted in the design view, in my experience it will be correctly
highlighted in the code panel.

One thing I noticed (thanks for the hint James) is I'm using a style sheet
where I'm doing through a <div> some padding. It appears that padding is
effecting cursor placement in design view. I'll need to test more because when
I create a new html page without any stylesheet the cursor in design view is
fine.

Did anyone figure this out??? It is driving me MAD and started when I
upgraded to Tiger. It doesn't appear to be a problem, like somone mentioned,
without CSS, however, most of my sites use CSS, so getting rid of it isn't an
option. HELP. I hate this and don't want to go into code view every time I
want to make simple text changes!

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I fixed it somehow last night by making my CSS
not have any margin info- just links/text. Now it's fine and the cursor in
design view is not offset by several characters. THANKS!

This must mean that you were using some powerfully hinky CSS. Can you show
me?
