Default Database linking into a website? - 07-23-2008 , 09:32 AM

Ok, the main deal is..
Im currently working for a retail business and they expect me to learn, from
scratch, having had no experience with dreamweaver how to connect their stock
database to the website so that they can track/update stock levels and sales.

Dont sign me off to the bin just yet, i have had experience with programming,
I have a microsoft access database already fully finished with their entire
stock. Their site thus far is based on VB script. Can be found at
www.burnsjewellersgroup.com.
Im using dreamweaver CS3
Have been trying to learn from a book called Dreamweaver MX bible, which is
out of date. and doesnt explain things too well. So far, all the constructive
steps ive taken are, ive clicked application -> database and got 3 of the 4
bullet points ticked. So ive created a site for the file, chosen a document
type, set up the connection server. Create a connection by pressing the +
button. Not sure what exactly to do (aside from the very obvious, like clicked
the + button).
And just because i say ive done it, doesnt mean ive done it right. No matter
how much i sound like i know what im doing, i dont.
Thanks for any help! :S

I would say to take a break, go back to the books, and get a couple of weeks
of solid HTML and CSS knowledge under your belt.

Then find Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual (by David Sawyer McFarland).
It has tutorials in it for how to bring dynamic data into your site.

You'll like it, I think. Dave is glib, informed, and usually bang on in his
methods used.
