Default Dam Layers, All i want is curved edges... - 11-08-2005 , 09:46 AM

Hey people,
Im a flash man so when it comes to HTML i always end up getting stuck. But
this is a typical problem to whind me right up, which is "WHY WONT MY PAGE LOOK
LIKE HOW IVE DESIGNED IT" which is why i liek flash, it looks exactly like how
i designed it everytime. Anway, so i made the site, made with tables mainly to
position. I made a 2 columned table with the main one and coloured each one
differently and wrote in it. That works fine. But the guy i make it for says he
wants the boxes to have curved edges. SO i made curved edged boxes in
photoshop, imported the image into the table but i cudnt write over the top of
it. SO i mad eit as a backgroudn as for the table, but that comes out tiled, so
cant use that either. Then i suddenyl stumbled across layers, which seemed to
be a life saver, drawing a layer and being able to move it anywhere on the
screen. So i imported the curved edge box again, drew a layer over the top and
wrote in it. Looks good on design view, but soon as i preview it, the layer
with the text shunts over to the left, everythign stays in same place but that
layer. I usign internet explorer, so it isnt the netscape problem. All i want
is to make curved edge boxes n write over it. The other prob, is that even if
the layer did stay wher ei wanted it, the image of the box has got a grey
background. Hope someone can help cus it would make my life sooooo much easier
if i figured how to use layers propaly.

Except when you don't have the Flash plugin installed.

For the rest, can you post a link to the page, please?

For aslong as ive been using the internet ive never known someone not to have
one. Im afraid to say that flash plug in's are bog standard for about 5 years,
and if for some reason you dont have one, then it takes about 20 seconds to
download it ;-) Anyway i didnt come here to talk about flash, do you need to
see the site come up with an explanation? Its somebodies buisness, i think i
best not post on public boards....

It's proprietary and completely optional. The one and only web standard
is (X)HTML, which is what _all_ user agents will understand. Flash is
purely presentational with poor accessibility and usability. If you have
something to say, then do it properly. If you just want to show your art
and design skill and don't care about your visitors, then use Flash.

Flash is not available for all platforms. And even if it's installed
there are good reasons to disable it (security, performance).

Of course not. We all have crystal balls.

Don't expect useful answers then.

Yep i hear every day about what other web designers dont like about flash. But
the fact is i have never heard off anyone that a flash website doesnt work for
them.... but its tpyical to have this said in here as its brought to my
attention that a majority of designers fight about html or flash... thats
pretty sad, but something i dont do, i dont say either is better. Anyway, its
ok i imagine you can help without needin to see a website because my mate
phoned me up and said addin a CSS script will solve all the probs i getting.
Add CSS and make the curved edge box a background - no repeat. I really dont
understand why to get help form you guys you HAVE to show a website, im
designing for a new idea buisness n DEFFO dont wanna broadcast his ideas about
b4 its completed

LOL!
you are not going to get any help unless we can see your html code.
Not because we want to see somebody else's business, but because we
can't trouble shoot your page unless we see the actual code.

Please don't paste your code in here, it's too much trouble looking at
some code in the format of these forums. Just post an url to the dam
page, or don't ask for help.
