Default CSS website with CMS - 12-31-2007 , 03:10 AM

Hi,

I am about to design a website which will have a CMS, blog and shopping cart.
I know CSS and HTML, but anything else I am unfamiliar with. How does this
sound as a plan? Use Contribute CS3 for the blog and CMS and buy the WebAssist
e-cart for the shopping cart?

Does Contribute CS3 support tableless CSS and is WebAssist's most basic
shopping cart suitable for a newbie? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Trying to make the process as straightforward as possible.

Happy New Year

I don't know web assist and contribute is problematic at best as I
understand it... but this is good http://www.tradingeye.com/ and will do
all the tasks for you... shop, blog and general updating across the
site. Good price too and you'll get valid (x)html/css/php

Happy new year

Contribute really isn't a CMS. It's more of a page editor.

Most CMS systems are web based (ie, they live on the server) and store the
content independantly of the template.

As to whether or not your idea is good, there's just so much we don't know
about the particulars of the project to really be of much help advice-wise.

I will say the 'larger' the CMS, the more likely it CAN'T handle CSS
layouts. CMS systems seem to be perpetually 4-5 years behind modern HTML/CSS
use.

That said, the smaller systems...like WordPress, are quite capable.

Thankyou Darrel for your advice. I think you are right that it is hard to help
when you don't know the particulars of the website.

Very briefly, the website is a small website. It has a blog and I would like
him to be able to update the content in his website. WordPress looks good. Can
you customise a css tableless layout so that you get it exactly how you want
it? Also, can you ensure that your client can only change the content and none
of the design elements?

I know these are very basic questions, but I have had trouble finding the
answers. Regards.

Hi,
Im not a programmer, just basic html and css. I've used Wordpress and
cubecart together on a site for someone, both using CSS. They update the
blog themselves and add their own products into the shopping cart. I
managed to customise it to look like they wanted, by starting with a basic
template (both systems work on a template basis) and then changing the CSS
and tweaking some files to suit what was needed.
It will take a bit of time and effort, however, to figure out how each
systems files are structured and where to find the bits to be changed.

Hope this is of some help
Fiona

Only use the eCart if you can use code and have a good idea how a store
and its admin should be built. eCart are the components to help YOU
build a shop, it will not make a shop for you.
