Default CSS/ Overflow/ Tables - 08-03-2004 , 11:29 PM

Hello - I started doing a website mainly in CSS (now is as good a time as
ever..) however when I checked in Safari, Netscape 4, etc, the layout wasn't so
perfect. Anyway, my deadline is pretty tight, so I decided to do a combo and
just use tables since I'm comfortable witth them. My client wants a portion
of the screen scrollable so I'm using the overflow property in CSS but the
height of the webpage is now really tall and adds a lot of extra scrollable
area, which looks like its from the height of the overflow text. Here's the
URL: http://www.spodumedia.com/Senart/news.html
Any guidance would be great. Also, if anyone can tell me how to eliminate
horizontal scrollbars in the text area that would also be appreciated.

thanks!

Sometimes you just need to say "no". If the deadline is tight, then
negotiate a postponement of this to the next revision. Or investigate the
use of IFrames.

Clients need to be informed of the downsides of some of their 'demands'.
Often the contents of scrollable areas are things you would like to print,
yet you can only print the visible portion unless you use a popup window to
hold a non-scrolling version.

Thanks Murray. Hypothetically speaking, if the client doesn't care about
printing, etc (i know, i know bad practice), would there be any way to get rid
of the empty area at the bottom..just for this first version? They have a very
specific design.

Thanks!

Perhaps, but I think it's also good, practical advice!

I'd bring in the text in an iframe instead since I think it'll be easier
to format.
Oh, your DTD is incomplete and'll throw the browsers into quirk's mode
which might also make the page hard to look as you wish.
