CSS Creating a two column appearance

Greetings!
Could someone please take a look at this and tell me what I am doing wrong. I
have been reading the discussions about div tags and think I understand how
that works. Our goal is to develope a CSS template that we can use on the
whole site. The placement of these boxes is killing us. I just don't get the
postioning stuff.
