Default CS4 changing selected code - 11-29-2008 , 08:03 AM

Before I contact Adobe, is anyone else having problems with selected text
changing during copying and inserts DW CS4?
I am having problems with copy/paste etc., most frequent when using keyboard
shortcuts:
1. I mark some code text to cut or copy and when I do so the marked area is
expanded, sometimes to include the entire code in the file.
and/or
2. I mark the position to copy to, or code text to be replaced, and a large
amount of the file becomes marked and replaced on inserting or replacing.
3. When changing tabs, sections of or the entire code text becomes selected.
Thanks.
David

David,

Yes -- and it is driving me crazy! It is taking six or seven attempts at
selecting, copying and pasting just to do a simple copy/paste operation.

1. If I just click somewhere in a php code page, it often selects the entire
php section.
2. If I try and click and drag to select, it will jump and select a huge
section of code both above and below my mouse pointer.
3. If I happen to be lucky enough to get the piece of code selected and then
right click and click on Copy, it jumps and again selects a huge chunk of the
code.
4. Even if I get a section selected and then press shift+delete, it still
often jumps and selects a whole bunch of text.
5. If I start a selection at a point, and drag my mouse down, when the pointer
gets to the bottom of the page, the scroll bar jumps up to the beginning point
of the selection and redrags down, and keeps cycling like this till I let go of
the mouse.

This is really detrimental to production and I am wondering if I switch to CS4
to soon.

I have a Logitech MX Laser mouse and wonder if it might be related to the
problem.

Hi there,

luckily I'm only trying before buying, I'll have to wait upgrading util this
behaviour is solved, it's driving me nuts :-|

Jumping back and forth between long php and css files in code view is
impossible because I lose my track on every switch when Dreamweaver moves
around in the code all the time.

"Try before buy" is nice but what about the dev. team "Try before release"
option ;-)

I am finding some more interesting behaviour...

This problem with selection is intermediate, and I wonder if it is tied to the
number of times copy operations have been performed... perhaps something is
becoming corrupted in memory.

If I have the page open in split view, and the problem starts to occur in the
code view, if I click in the design view and then go back to code view
SOMETIMES the problem will go away. This doesn't work all of the time.

I have found that once I get a section of code successfully selected, using
the top menu Copy and Paste options always seem to work.

Another weird thing I have noticed is that when this problem is occurring, if
I am in the first line of the code view and click on Home, rather than taking
me to the beginning of the line, it takes me to the end of the line.

I am using split view in the vertical mode... which is very nice, but I hope
they soon fix this selection problem.

Just to add my cry for help here - same issue - doesn't always happen,
and I've tried to see if I can pin it down to use of other software,
but clean install of new purchased DW CS4 gives me all the problems
you're describing here with copying and pasting text in Code view.
Someone suggested to me it was tied in with the 'related files'
feature, but the problem arises even with stand-alone pages that have
no related files.

I'm using DW4 (10.0) build 4117 with Windows Vista 64bit.

I'm having the same problem, mainly working with CSS in Dreamweaver, I select
some code press ctrl + c and it selects and copies everything, it does not
always do it but does most of the time.

Going to Edit > Copy seems to work fine.

I'm using CS4 on Windows Vista x64.

I'm on 32 bit XP DWCS4 and have had the same problem with copying,
here's another one you guys might have missed, if you go into code
view and ad another element to the sql select statement the record set
display in the bindings panel doesn't update to reflect the new
element, you have to restart DW to show the updated selected elements
in the bindings panel.............

I'm glad there are other people with this problem. I thought I was just crazy.

Well, deleting my Configuration folder really isn't an option since you'd have
to redo all the custom stuff you've done inside of DW.

So I started testing some things and it appears that the code inspector window
is causing all my problems.

I'm running 2 large monitors and like to have the code inspector open on the
2nd monitor to be looking at 2 separate areas of code.

As soon as I close the code inspector and restart DW, the problem goes away.
Then when I reopen the code inspector the problem immediately reappears.

I'm on a Mac running OS 10.5.6, so I'm not sure if this is what the problem is
on the Windows side or with any other Mac users.

Can anyone else verify this? Is this problem only occurring with 2 monitors
and when the code inspector is on one of them.

Thanks and I hope this helps get to the bottom of the issue.

Deleting my Configuration folder fixed the problem for me, but it does seem to
come back sometimes, not as bad as it was but still not right.

I don't use the Code Inspector window very much but do normally have it in
Split view, I'm running two monitors a 30" and a 15".

I'll try not using Split view and see what happens, Code Inspector and Split
view are sort of doing the same thing in that they are showing the page/code
twice so could be related.

Ah, i'm glad it's not just me - i see this bug too. Have recently recreated
my whole windows user folder (as a consequence of joining a domain) and the
problem still exists. For the record, i'm running dual monitors on XP 32
too.

Also found a way to have a split code view (2 independent code panes) today!
I customised my shortcut keys so ctrl + shift + 2 = split view, but this is
what happens when i use this shortcut:

Gotta love adobe's shoddy coding lol.
