Default cross browser tooltip - 11-06-2005 , 11:49 AM

I am opening a window with no chrome and one large image in it. I want to
show a tooltip for a limited time that says 'click to close' on mouse over
the image. I know using alt text will generate a tooltip in IE but what is
the correct way to do it that works in all browsers?

Thanks in advance

Hywel Harris

Use the title attribute, e.g.,

<a title="click to close">

I thought it should be that but I can't get that to work in FF.

Does it work for you? I get the hand cursor but no tooltip.

Thanks for your help

This is weird. It works in IE5 IE6 Netscape7 & 6.1 and Opera7 but my FF1.0.7
doesn't show anything. Is the user able to turn off ToolTips? I didn't think
they could!.

Thanks for your help

Yes I've done all that, (but not a reboot, thats the next thing to try) the
version on my host doesn't refresh that often, I've had that problem before,
but when I view the local file from DW with both preview as temp file or
not it still doesn't show.

But I'm happy that it will show on most everybody else's

Thanks for your help.
