Default Creating a link by click & drag - 08-17-2006 , 02:55 PM

I'm using an evaluation copy of Dreamweaver 8. I attempted to create a link by
highlighting text in document 1, then holding down the Shift key, left clicking
on the highlighted text, and dragging what should have been a line to the
anchor in document 2. (This is how it works in my old version.) Instead, the
highlighted area in document 1 simply got bigger to include additional text.
Do I have a defective Dreamweaver 8, or has the system changed?

Look in your code. As a web designer never rely on a program to give you accurate results.

Look within the code to see waht DW is doing.

Thanks for responding. The code reflects what's happening in design view.
That is, if I highlight a word that I wish to link to an anchor, depress the
Shift key, left click on the mouse, and then move the mouse, the highlighted
area expands in design view and expands, as well, in the code view.

What is supposed to happen, instead, is that a line should be drawn whose
tip is controlled by the mouse, and which I can then connect up to an anchor.
At that point, the code view will show the <a href="#anchor">Link</a>. This is
what happens when I, instead, left click on the "Drag to file to make a link"
icon in the Properties panel. But the alternative method with the Shift key
seems not to work.

That's what it's supposed to do when you press the shift key.

It does not. Did it ever? I don't think so. Shift drag has always been
enlarge the selection as far as I know.

Murray,

You ask if it ever happened. It works that way on my daughter's version of Dreamweaver 8, and it happened three times out of the 50 or so times I tried it on my own trial version.
