You would only have to pay if you REGISTER your copyright. Otherwise, it's
automatically copyrighted as soon as you publish it.

I believe it's copyrighted the moment you *create* it. Publishing
has nothing to do with it. (I am not a copyright lawyer; heck, I'm
not even a lawyer of any kind. This ain't anything remotely like
legal advice.)

The registration process helps primarily in prosecuting copyright
infringement.

There are other issues such as derivative works and works for hire,
etc, etc, etc. The OP might still wanna look into those sometimes
thorny aspects.

@Really no nick name,

You are asking some kind of strange question, really. But Bryan B (known as
BB) is correct.

However, as you probably know how complicated copyright issue is. What kind of
copyright question do you have in particular? What does copyright issue having
to do with your website? Your explanation is very broad and not very clear.

If you are THAT concerned about certain aspect of copyrighted issue around
your site, you are better off hiring a lawyer. It is better to do so, rather
than being sorry later on. I have seen many serious consequences going on on
the Internet, there are so many stories happening all the time - everyday quite
literally.

What kind of content is involved around your website? Photos? PDF
documentation? Confidential info?

Good luck with your website project and getting your site copyrighted. But
there is no such a thing for a free copyright, there IS always a cost to
implement copyright. There IS no other way around for that matter. To seek more
accurate info, get yourself a lawyer. That is my simple two-cent advice.

Brian
